Low Pressure Dose

Low Pressure Dose - when soil or slope conditions are not as friendly, LPD systems can offer a medium alternative to save cost. LPD can be installed above or below the tank and allow different set backs to ground water and restrictive horizons. There are a couple different options, as one could use a gravel and pipe system, but also here in the Hill Country some jurisdictions will allow LPD with leaching chambers.

Low pressure dose systems are similar to a conventional system, in that they still have a standard septic tank but in addition there is a pump tank. These usually come in one piece as most manufacturers have a three compartment tank available. Inside the third compartment a pump is installed and this pressurizes the effluent to the entire drainfield.

Another advantage of a LPD system is that the homeowner will have a mechanical or audio/visual alarm in place to let them know if there is an issue with the pump. For the alarm, these systems do require an electrical circuit specifically designated for the septic. It is required that the design be done by a professional engineer or registered sanitarian and installed by someone that holds an Installer II license.
